Issue four

Welcome to issue four of Digital Accountancy Magazine

Editor’s Introduction

There have been so many changes over the last few months as a result of COVID-19 but now we are starting to come out of lockdown - although we are not returning to the same environment as we had before. We have all had to adapt to many changes and this is impacting us all not only in the workplace but throughout our day to day lives as well.

We were really disappointed to have to postpone the Digital Accountancy Show until June 2021 but this means we have something in the diary to look forward to and we will have an amazing show for you at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! However, we are not leaving you without anything until June! We are really excited to be running the Digital Accountancy Week from 12th to 16th October. This is a free, virtual event and is a one week technology extravaganza which hosts 5 brand new digital events for 2020 including the Top 100 Tech Summit, the Digital Transformation forum, Small Firms Festival, App advisory Summit and Advisory Live. We have lots of information about the event in this issue and details of how you can register - there is something for everyone and it is definitely not to be missed! The role of technology was really highlighted during lockdown. Not only was this needed for us to service our clients but also to allow us to run as an accountancy practice. It is vital that we have systems and processes in place internally to allow us to manage our work and this is where good practice management software really helps. In this issue, we have looked at how you go about choosing practice management software and the key points to consider. We have also some case studies from accountants who have moved to a different practice management tool and why they decided to make this move.

We also have lots of other really useful features including some great Excel tips, help with onboarding new clients using Zapier as well as some really great interviews with Lucy Cohen and Graeme Tennick in the “Firms in the Spotlight” feature. However, one of the most exciting tasks myself and the other members of the Board of the Digital Accountancy Show undertook was judging the first Digital Accountancy Show awards! We were inundated with loads of really excellent entries and it was fascinating to read how so many firms are using technology within their practice. It was really very tough to shortlist these entries but we have managed to whittle it down to our top 10 Digital Accountants and top 3 Best Rising Stars. The details of those on the shortlist is included in this issue and the winners will be announced at the show!

This is a really bumper issue of the magazine and I really do hope you enjoy it, are inspired by it and rethink about some other ways that you can use technology in your firm. Look forward to seeing you in issue 5! Until then, stay safe and well.
